Lions Find Second Win of the Season

Lions Find Second Win of the Season

Your CCBC Dundalk Lions get their second win of the season after splitting the double header with Anne Arundel Community College on Saturday. The Lions won the first game 7-5 in extra innings and lost the second 10-14.

The first game started off quiet as the first runs did not come until the bottom of the 3rd when the Riverhawks scored 4 with the help of a three-run home run.

In the top of the 5th Justin Moore, Trey Taliferro, and Chaney Skeans hit three straight singles with Moore scoring off of Skeans single to put the Lions on the board but still down 4-1.

Those same bats stayed hot for the Lions in the top of the 7th Moore led off with a single followed by a Taliferro walk but this time Skeans doubled to bring both of them home. Now with two outs and Skeans still on second, Doyle McNew came in to pinch hit and came through with a triple to tie the game at 4-4.

Since this was a double header, extra innings started in the 8th inning where Shawn Sinclair hit a sac fly to bring Kendall Goodwin home and give the Lions the lead 5-4. The Riverhawks had a sac fly of their own in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game back up at 5-5.

The top of the 9th started with a single by Skeans followed by a Jac Carll double to score Skeans. Matt Fino pinch hit and hit a double as well to score Carll. In Nate Griffin's first relief appearance (4 starts) of the season he is awarded the winning pitcher in the Lions second win of the season.

The second game started off hot for the Lions. Jouseph Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to lead off the game. Jake Brack hit the first homerun of the season for the Lions and gave them a quick 2-0 lead. Fino doubled and made it to third on an error. With one out Ben Hall brought Fino home with a single. Hall stole second and a single from Nick White placed a man on 1st and 3rd. White stole second and Hall stole home, Lions up 4-0. Kenny Nichols doubled and White scored. Kevin Gamble drew a walk and then him and Nichols stole 2nd and 3rd. Kyle Hansel grounded out to first but Nichols scored and Gamble was now on third. Back at the top of the lineup Rodriguez singled to bring home Gamble and the Lions ended the first half inning up 7-0.

In the top of the 2nd Hall reached second base on an error and scored by a single from White. The Lions had some blunders of their own giving up four runs in the bottom half of the inning off one hit, Lions lead 8-4.

The struggles continued for the Lions as the Riverhawks runs kept on coming until they were up 14-8 after six innings.

The Lions still had some fight left in them in the top of the 7th when Moore came in to pinch hit and lead off with a walk. Hansel singled and Rodriguez reached on an error to load the bases. Jared Jackson reached on a fielder's choice and Moore scored. With Goodwin, who pinch ran for Hansel, on third and Jackson on first they stole second and home and were both safe. Sadly the Lions offense ended there with the final score of 14-10.
