Lions Split with Wolfpack

by Tyriq D. Smith

The CCBC Dundalk Lions secured their fourth win of the season with an 8–5 victory over Westmoreland County Community College in the first game of their doubleheader on April 6. Despite the strong start, the Lions dropped the second game 5–3, settling for a split on the day. The doubleheader moves their overall record to 4–18 and 3–17 in conference play as they continue to battle through the season.

Game 1

In game one Dundalk struck first with a run in the bottom of the first and broke the game open in the middle innings, scoring three in the fourth and four more in the fifth. The big blow came from Ethan Earley, who launched a home run and finished the day 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and an RBI. Kaleb Weeks added two RBIs, while Ryan Kennedy chipped in with two hits and a run batted in. The Wolfpack committed seven errors, which contributed heavily to their downfall. Weaver (0-7) took the loss, allowing 8 earned runs on 6 hits and 4 walks over 4 innings.

On the mound for Dundalk, Jeremy Tirschman (1-5) picked up his first win of the season, going 5.2 innings with 6 strikeouts despite allowing 5 earned runs. Josh Easley closed the door with 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save.

Game 2

After giving up three runs in the first inning, Dundalk settled in behind Ricky Montelongo, who struck out nine batters over six innings of work. The Lions cut the lead to 4–3 with a solid effort at the plate in the 4th and 5th innings, featuring RBIs from Coreem WrightEthan Earley, and Jelani Hopkins. Wright provided a spark with a double and a stolen base, while Earley reached base twice and executed a sacrifice bunt to keep the pressure on. Despite totaling eight hits—matching Westmoreland's offense—the Lions stranded nine runners and couldn't break through against Westmoreland pitching staff falling 5-3.

The CCBC Dundalk Lions will face off against their CCBC rivals, CCBC Catonsville, on Thursday, April 10, in a conference doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM, with Game Two set for 2:00 PM.
